Dear Lepidopterists!

We announce with great pleasure, that the first volume of the Witt Catalogue - A Taxonomic Atlas of the Eurasian and North African Noctuoidea has been published. This is the first large enterprise after the famous Seitz series which covers the vast area from the Canary Islands throughout the Palaearctic North Africa, Europe and all parts the continental Asia towards eastern Indonesia! The new series is a direct continuation of the revisional works of the European Noctuidae fauna, the results of which are published in the Noctuidae Europaeae series.

The first volume of the Catalogue provides a revised taxonomic content of the Eurasian and North African Plusiinae genera Erythroplusia Ichinose, 1962, Macdunnoughia Kostrowicki, 1961, Sclerogenia Ichinose, 1973, Antoculeora Ichinose, 1973, Diachrysia (Hübner, [1821]), Euchalcia (Hübner, [1821]), Desertoplusia Klyuchko, 1984, Platoplusia Ronkay, Ronkay & Behounek gen. n., Polychrysia (Hübner, [1821]), Panchrysia (Hübner, [1821]), Lamprotes Reichenbach, 1817, Plusidia Butler, 1879, Chlorochrysia Ronkay, Ronkay & Behounek gen. n., Autographa (Hübner, [1821]), Megalographa Lafontaine & Poole, 1991, Cornutiplusia Kostrowicki, 1961, Syngrapha (Hübner, [1821]) and Plusia Ochsenheimer, 1816.

Plusiinae I. contains 116 text pages with the latest taxonomic information, full synonymy and effective diagnoses of all known Palaearctic and Oriental taxa of the above-mentioned genera. There are 2 new genera, 7 new species and 3 new subspecies described in the book. The volume is illustrated with 38 colour plates of high quality magnified photos displaying all taxa included and with 12 colour plates showing the variation of each taxon in natural size . The genitalia of all species and subspecies are shown in 150 black and white plates . The whole book counts altogether 348 pages .

The high quality printed new book is very useful for both the taxonomists, libraries of scientific institutes and professional amateur collectors, as well as for those naturalists who are interested in the true biodiversity of both the Eurasian Fauna and the nocturnal lepidopterans.

Just 6 months after the first volume of the Witt Catalogue 1. (A Taxonomic Atlas of the Eurasian and North African Noctuoidea – Plusiinae I.), the second item of the series, the Cuculliinae I. has been published. Thus, a real series has been started, which is the first large enterprise after the famous Seitz series with the aim of summarizing, revising and presenting the Eurasian Noctuoidea fauna, from the Canary Islands throughout the Palaearctic North Africa, Europe, all parts of the continental Asia to the archipelago as far to the south-east as eastern Indonesia! The new series is a direct continuation of the revisional works of the European Noctuidae fauna, the results of which are published in the Noctuidae Europaeae series

The second volume of the Catalogue contains the revision of the genus Cucullia Schrank, 1802 (sensu stricto). The book includes the genera Cucullia and Calocucullia Ronkay & Ronkay, 1987; these two genera comprise altogether 150 taxa of 126 species. The modern interpretation of the taxonomic content of Cucullia is based on the species-group system proposed by the authors in 1994, extending the frames of this monophylum, and resulting in the establishment of a number of new species-groups and two new synonymies (Dasysternum Staudinger, 1895 and Metlaouia Dumont, 1929).

The Cuculliinae I. volume contains 122 text pages with the latest taxonomic information, full synonymy and effective diagnoses of all known Palaearctic and Oriental taxa of the two genera, with the descriptions of 6 new species and 7 new subspecies.
The volume is illustrated with 39 colour plates of high quality magnified photos displaying all taxa included and 18 colour plates showing the variation of each taxon in natural size. The genitalia of all species and subspecies are shown in 150 black and white plates. The whole book counts altogether 365 pages in A/4 size.

The second item of the series could be very useful for both the taxonomists, libraries of scientific institutes and professional amateur collectors, as well as for those naturalists who are interested in the true biodiversity of both the Eurasian Fauna and the nocturnal lepidopterans.

The book includes altogether 16 genera, six of them are newly established (Genoveva, Hoenapamea, Mohapamea, Oriasapamea, Fahejbarna and Pluviapamea).
